Mass Native Ellen Pompeo Gives Inside Look Of Midcentury Malibu Beach House

While she is known for portraying a doctor on television, one actress from Massachusetts could equally pass for an interior designer after letting people inside her exquisite seaside abode.

Today Architectural Digest is welcomed to Malibu by _Grey’s Anatomy_ star Ellen Pompeo for a tour of her inviting mid-century beach house.

North Shore native and "Grey's Anatomy" star Ellen Pompeo took people through a tour of her Malibu beach home in a video for Architectural Digest, explaining design choices and exhibiting the house's midcentury modern style.

Pompeo, who was born in Everett, first scoped out the house early in her "Grey's Anatomy" career, but could not afford it at the time. However, when it came on the market again she snapped it up, and has since overhauled the space to personalize it for her family.

This was evident in several rooms including a guest bedroom covered in photos of monumental moments in Black American history. Pompeo took the opportunity to explain that this was one of her approaches to ensuring her children are represented in her home.

"Obviously my children are Black and it's really important for me to have lots of representation in the artwork," Pompeo said. "I really make an effort to have it be predominantly Black artists or have the subjects of it be Black people who have made such an impact on our history here in the United States."

However, Pompeo was perhaps most animated about the marble-encased kitchen.

"This is my space," giggled Pompeo. "I don't like anyone in the kitchen when I'm in here. There are three stools that I've been nice enough to put here for the children, they each have their own stool, and nobody is to come around into the kitchen."

Another highlight of the tour is a look into the pool area, of which Pompeo is much less possessive.

"When you have a beach house a lot of people want to come visit," she said. "We always have the music blasting and there's always so many kids running around."

However, not all was pristine about the abode as Pompeo even admitted to a design mistake in the form of a large marble bathtub.

"Full disclosure, marble baths don't retain heat so well," the interior design enthusiast said. "I don't really recommend it."
